BENEFITS OF RECYCLED PLASTIC MATERIAL IN PACKAGING
There is an increasing demand for recycled plastic resin content in packaging due to carbon reduction. At PlasticTecnic, we have produced various recycled plastic packaging for our clients. Many big companies are going towards a higher recycling content for their packaging, which increases the demand for recycled plastic material. There are a few benefits to increasing the recycling content in your packaging product.
A. REDUCE ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION
Increasing recycled plastic consumption reduces environmental pollution. It reduces the amount of plastic entering the ocean, landfills, and the environment. The primary causes of plastic pollution are the lack of plastic waste management, insufficient separation at source, and awareness of the importance of plastic recycling.
B. REDUCE CARBON FOOTPRINT
Recycled plastic produces less carbon footprint than virgin plastic, as it requires a lower energy requirement than virgin plastic resin’s production. Association of Plastic recyclers reports that recycled resin reduced carbon emission from virgin material by 67% for PETs, and 71% for HDPE and PP. The lifecycle studies for virgin plastics started from the extraction of petroleum or natural gas or with collection from the consumer for post-consumer recycled plastic and end with pellets form.
C. REDUCE RESOURCE DEPLETION AND FOSSIL FUEL CONSUMPTION
Every year, millions of barrels of crude oil used to support the plastic demands and produce virgin plastic resin. Compared to virgin plastic, recycling plastic would be the most sustainable option to reduce fossil fuel demand. Fossil fuel is a finite natural resource that will deplete completely, if we do not control our fuel consumption, there will not be sufficient for future generations. According to a study conducted by Stanford University, a ton of recycled plastic saves 7.2 MWh of electricity which is sufficient to run a household for seven months.
D. REDUCE HEALTH RISKS
Certain plastic types such as PVC and polystyrene, releases harmful chemicals when heated or burned. Therefore if the plastic ends up in a landfill or incineration facility releases hazardous chemicals into the environment and affect the human health, including but not limited to respiratory problems and hormone disruptions. Therefore by increasing the recycled plastic demand, hence as the plastic recycling rate increases, it will be able to reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in the landfill or incineration plants.
PLASTICTECNIC MOVEMENT WITH RECYCLED PLASTIC PRODUCT
Plastictecnic has managed to provide solutions for clients and currently has a few products that contain 25-100% recycled plastic resin. Plastictecnic has the capability to accommodate recycled plastic product needs with our research and manufacturing facilities.
